Edge magazine App Reviews

Latest issue not opening!

Issue 261 not working, no matter what I do. Plus, custumer support is still inexistant, even with the dedicated email.

Magazine=Great, App=Crap

This is not about the magazine EDGE, which is great...but it is a shame that the app cant live up to that. I do have severe problems to reach the online-store, so I cannot buy the magazine. And technically this app is far away from being at the e-magazine standard. It doesnt even have bookmarks! Check out the pixelmags-apps, the RETRO GAMER for example...thats the way it should be done.

Great magazine, rubbish app.

I have been reading EDGE on and off since 1995. When Future Publishing announced an iPad version of its flagship games magazine I immediately downloaded the app and took on a yearly subscription. I guess that was a mistake. While I still love its editorial content, EDGE just does not make a very comfortable read on the iPad. In the end all there is is an embedded PDF of the issue. And don´t get me started on how crap it looks on the iPhone. I understand that publishers do not wish to spend too much money when transferring their content on Apple´s iDevices. But I very much doubt if this app will widen the readership of the magazine in the long run. Look at the fantastic Guardian iPad app, and the get back to the drawing board! This just doesn´t cut it for me. If things don´t get any better I´ll be sure to cancel my subscription.

The future of magazines is here.

The mag looks great, nice multimedia. This is the future of interactive magazines. Nice work.

You did it WRONG

I understand the idea to use the iPads capabilities for interactive or animated stuff. But what you did here is a step in the wrong direction: - I have to wait until the page animation is completed to read the page title?! Are you serious? You lost 2 stars with this "feature" - sometimes I can scroll through an image gallery - sometimes I have to open and close each individual image. Why?! Lost one star for this "usability improvement" - 1 The new magazine is too big! What did you put in there? It takes far too long to download. Another star lost. Please, rethink your new interactive magazine. For me, the usability is a lot worse than on the old magazine.

No more digital copy

A few issues ago, Edge switched from digital copy to interactive edition. This wouldnt be so bad if it would still be possible to download the digital copy instead - for people like me who just want to _read_ the mag and dont want to waste 650 MB for interactive nonsense. Unfortunately, since issue #243, Edge is only available as an interactive edition in Newsstand - which is not what I subscribed and paid for half a year ago. If you want a digital copy, you have to go back to Zinio. Of course, there is no way to transfer a subscription from one to another. Still the best videogame magazine on the planet, though.

Great!

Tank you very much for bringing the worlds best video game magazine to the iPad! Reading the interactive edition is a wonderful experience and I will never buy paper magazines again. Keep up the good work!

lousy support

app contains massive flaws: its not possible to in-app buy and download the special "20th anniversary edition: the best of edge". even if you write to future publishing about this - dont expect any feedback from uk. im absoloutly disappointed by future publishing support. 1/10 edges.

Simply the best quality game journalism you can get

These guys go in depth. They have no clue how to write a preview and are sometimes lacking structure, but their features are the best in the entire media world. Its probably the only cultural gaming magazine in the market right now.

Last update

The last update seems a little buggie. Top and bottom edges of viewing area misaligned, still see reading area, hard to see menus.

Content is not optimized for iPad

This app offer the print version of the magazine in a pseudo-PDF that you can zoom and pan, unlike some iPad optimized mags like Wired or GQ. Note quite as pleasant to read.

Needs some serious optimization

The pages take so much time to load, its ridiculous. An iPad third gen should be able to display static pages with no hiccups.

Best gaming mag

EDGE is the best interactive videogame magasine out there, period.

The most complete iPad video game experience

Ive been a fan of EDGE since the early 00s and Ive subscribed the the iPad version for the past few years on and off. Ive recently upgraded to an iPad Air 2 and have found the experience with the EDGE app to be the best magazine experience Ive had on a tablet.

Best magazine about videogame industry

Not much to add there ;) Loads of interviews, editorials, and industry insights!

Disappointing update

I’ve been reading Edge iPad edition for many months and it was awesome experience. The layout, the interactivity, the accessibility, and even the performance was greatly improved over the months. Sadly, the new update, or rather downgrade, gets rid of all of this and Edge iPad edition is now simply a pdf you can view on your iPad. I’m using standard 9,7” iPad and the text is unreadable unless you manually zoom it, which is very inconvenient, and the contents of the magazine are often displayed across two pages and are broken in the middle of an image or text. It’s a mess, and a big letdown. If Edge does not return to its previous awesome format, I’m cancelling subscription.

Quite good

Normally I would be very skeptical about reading magazines on iPad. This one, however, reads really well. So as long as each issue is cheaper than the paper version, it makes it an interesting way to read. Enjoy!

The best gaming magazine ever!

Loving this!

Fantastic!

The interactive version for IPad is Fantastic!

Good app, missing one big feature

Please add support for the (big) iPad Pro. Considering that most issues are PDF dumps, theres no reason to limit the resolution to a standard iPad.
